Winelands Tour

About this tour

Take a scenic drive through the lush valleys of Paarl, just 40 minutes outside of Cape Town, where the art of winemaking has been perfected. On Paarl mountain, the Afrikaanse Taal Monument towers 57 meters high in commemoration and celebration of the contribution made by Africa, The Netherlands and Britain to the development of the Afrikaans language. The monument was inaugurated in 1975 and boasts breathtaking panoramic mountain and valley views.

En route to a cellar tour and wine tasting, we pass the Groot Drakenstein Prison, better known as Victor Verster Prison. This is where freedom fighter and former president, Nelson Mandela, was detained towards the end of his 27 year political imprisonment. More commemoratively, walk where this great man took the first steps towards our nationโ€™s freedom, on 11 February 1990.

Then stop over at one of the premiere wine destinations in the world. Franschhoekโ€™s fertile earth was where the French first made wine in South Africa some 300 years ago. Today this cascading land boasts 43 wine farms, many of which have been renowned for producing some of the worldโ€™s top wines. Also on this wonderful wine route, see the provincial heritage site of the Huguenot Memorial.

Our tour draws to an end amidst seemingly endless rows of lush vinery, valleys and Cape Dutch homesteads. Stellenbosch radiates the tales
of lavish lifestyle, rich heritage and wonderful wines. We take a cultural walk-about in Dorp Street in the heart of this quaint town.
